    The Controls Engineer designs and drafts systems of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls for machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers in an industrial environment. In addition to the support provided to our production, our controls engineers are developing software solutions which greatly help to improve our overall equipment efficiency.

    Responsibilities

    • Discusses project with Supervisor and Manufacturing Applications Engineer to review functions of machines and equipment.
    • Designs and drafts arrangement of linkage of conductors, relays, and other components of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication devices.
    • Diagrams logic system for functions such as sequence and timing control.
    • Designs and drafts diagrams of cable connection for robots, robot end-of-arm tool, robot controller, and other machines.
    • Illustrates and describes installation and maintenance details such as where bearings should be lubricated, types of lubrication, and which parts are lubricated automatically and manually.
    • Confers with Industrial Equipment Assembler & Wirer to resolve problems regarding building of controls systems.
    • Reviews schematics with customer's representatives to answer questions during installation of robot systems.
    • Observes gauges during trial run of programmed machine and equipment operation to verify that electrical signals in system conform to specifications.
    • Designs controls for energy conversion or other industrial plant monitoring systems.
    • Uses computer and software programs to produce design drawings.
    • Provides application/control systems design and development for systems of varied complexity.
    • Develops and evaluates alternative system solutions that meet stated requirements.
    • Modifies program/system logic involving multiple systems and subsystems.
    • Carries out engineering solutions and designs in compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements and project specifications.
    • Addresses potential problems and carries out appropriate actions individually or proposes solutions to the project engineer depending on the severity of the problem.

    Qualifications

    Required Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; and two to four years Manufacturing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Advanced knowledge in one or more of the following PLC programs: Siemens, Beckhoff, Moller, Allen Bradley.
    • Prior experience with:
      • Creating wiring schematics
      • Updating I/O
      • Designing and building control cabinets
      • HMI program repairs and upgrades
      • Improving OEE
      • Reducing downtime and costs
      • Programming SCADA screens
      • Creating score boards
      • Collecting machine data
      • Adding cameras
      • Creating reports
    • Well versed in material and process analysis. Strong experience with welding and brazing in required.
    • Experience with manufacturing processes and initiative such as six sigma, and statistical process control.
    • Experience in project management and interface with customers and suppliers.
    • Basic knowledge or training of 5's, Lockout&Tagout procedures, Basic Plant safety, Hazwaste, ISO-14001, and Quality, materials, and environmental procedures and policies.

     

    Preferred Education and Experience:

    • Master’s Degree in a related field.
    • SAP experience
    • Experience in automotive manufacturing and /or engineering and sales driven businesses
    • Experience working in a Germany based (international) organization
    • Experience successfully managing projects with teams of 1 to 2 engineers.
    • Familiar with common Project Management tools for managing budget, schedule, and scope of various size projects.
